Prolotherapy

What is Prolotherapy?

Prolotherapy is a form of regenerative medicine. It is one of the oldest and therefore one of the most tested regenerative techniques. It falls in the same category as stem cell and platelet rich plasma (PrP) injections.

The technique utilizes a mixture of local anesthetic and dextrose, applied in a large volume, to an area that has been injured or is inflamed. This increases inflammation in the area for a short period of time, sending a signal to the body to come and repair the area, utilizing the body’s own immune system to achieve this.

The first injection will typically result in increased pain and tenderness to the area for the first 1-3 days. Healing and relief come in the following 1-4 weeks.

What can Prolotherapy be used for?

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis)
  • Golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis)
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Other injuries to tendons or ligaments of the shoulder, knee, and ankle
